Judy Chong spent her entire lifetime immersed in learning about and managing the production and marketing of specialty fruits and vegetables.

Born and raised in a home where fresh produce was a way of life. A lack of resources and a totally alien market did not prevent the patriarch, Wing Chong, from growing a small truck farm into the first large scale supplier of Asian vegetables in Canada & the United States. Judy Chong followed her father into the fields and was taking orders by the age of eight. Ryerson University and a career in restaurant & retail management only added to her education in the food business.

In 1983, Judy joined Wing Chong Farm, full time and with her father, they introduced a huge range of fresh and at the time, exotic products from around the world. Wing Chong concentrated on Asia while Judy Chong developed products from the Caribbean and Latin America; the result was a range of products that were unheard of in the 1960s is now commonplace in almost all supermarkets.

Judy Chong is very involved with industry issues and works tirelessly on many causes. These included fair trade within the industry (i.e. steering committee member for Fruit & Vegetable Dispute Resolution Corporation, member of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s Board of Arbitration); sustainable trade, locally and internationally (.i.e. Ontario Ministry of Farm & Rural Affairs market advisory committee, FHIA (Honduras development agency); JamPro (Jamaican); SAGAR (Mexican development agency); our own Trade Facilitation Office Canada and many others. The one common element is to better conditions for everyone-from the smallest grower to the multi-national to the fussiest consumer; the result must benefit everyone involved.

Now ready for new challenges, she is applying the 40+ years in the produce business to help more people bring their products to market profitably.
